Once the business posts its first shift and that shift is fulfilled.
A reason to join
Student life is busy.
Your work should fit around it.
From food shopping and travel to a night out with your mates, a little extra income can make a difference. FlexyStaff Students brings together two opportunities: find suitable flexible shifts and earn referral rewards by helping other people get started.
Whether you’re exploring part-time student jobs, weekend work or temporary shifts between lectures, start by creating your FlexyStaff worker profile. Check the role, location, hours and pay before applying, and choose opportunities that fit your timetable.
You already know people who might be looking for work: your flatmates, course friends, teammates and society members. Introduce them to FlexyStaff and you could earn alongside the hours they work, while they receive their full hourly rate.

Help friends discover flexible student work while earning £1 for each hour your referred friends complete.
Think beyond your flat
Introduce coursemates, societies and local businesses. There is no limit to the number of referrals you can have.
The friend referral reward
£1 per hour. Per referred friend.
Refer one friend and earn £1 for every hour they work through FlexyStaff. Refer two friends and, if they both work an hour, you earn £2 in total. Refer five friends and, if each works an hour, you earn £5 in total.
The reward follows the hours worked by each person you referred. Friends don’t need to work at the same time: their completed hours add up.
| Friends referred | Hours each friend works | Your referral reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1 friend | 8 hours | £8 |
| 2 friends | 8 hours each | £16 |
| 5 friends | 8 hours each | £40 |
| 10 friends | 8 hours each | £80 |
Illustrative examples based on £1 per referred friend’s completed working hour. These are referral rewards, separate from anything you earn by working your own shifts.
Try the numbers
See what your network could add up to.
Use this calculator to explore an example. Choose how many referred friends work and the average hours each completes, then add any qualifying business referrals.
Example: Five friends working ten hours each would generate £50 in referral rewards. One qualifying business referral would add £20, bringing your total to £70.
Rewards depend on actual completed hours and qualifying business referrals. Available shifts and employer selection vary; signing up alone does not generate a reward.
Your referral reward calculator
Change the numbers to explore your example.
Friend rewards: £50.00 · Business rewards: £20.00
Calculation: friends × average hours × £1, plus qualifying businesses × £20. This is an example, not a prediction of earnings.
The business referral reward
Know a business that needs an extra pair of hands?
The café near campus. A restaurant you visit with friends. A local shop or events business. If you know a business that could use temporary staff, introduce it to FlexyStaff.
You earn £20 when the business you referred posts its first shift and that first shift is fulfilled. The reward is triggered by that completed first shift, rather than registration alone.
One qualifying business referral
- Introduce a business to FlexyStaff.
- The referred business posts its first shift.
- That first shift is fulfilled, qualifying your referral for the £20 reward.
FlexyStaff pays the referral reward. There is no extra referral charge for the business. Its normal staffing costs still apply.
Paid by FlexyStaff
Your reward. Their full hourly rate.
Helping a friend find work should feel positive for both of you. That’s why FlexyStaff funds the referral system.
Your £1-per-hour referral reward is not deducted from your friend’s earnings. They receive their full entitlement at their full hourly rate, with no reduction to fund your referral reward. Any normal payroll deductions remain separate.
The same principle applies to a business referral. FlexyStaff pays your £20 reward, so the business does not pay an extra charge to cover it.
From one friend to a whole student network
Start with your flat.
Share across your student union.
There is no limit to the number of referrals you can have. Start with a friend who wants flexible work, then introduce other people who could benefit: your course group, sports club, university society or wider student community.
Your friends can refer and earn on the same basis too. Once they join, they can introduce their own friends and businesses and earn rewards from their own referrals. You earn from the people and businesses you personally refer; the examples on this page do not include rewards from your friends’ referrals.
Share something useful: a way to explore student jobs and earn through genuine introductions. Where your student union or society allows it, share the opportunity in its group or newsletter and explain that you can receive a referral reward.

Your questions, answered
FlexyStaff Students: Refer & Earn FAQs
How much can I earn by referring a friend?
You earn £1 for every hour the friend you referred works through FlexyStaff. If they complete an eight-hour shift, your referral reward is £8. Rewards add up across the completed hours of all your referred friends.
Does my friend lose any pay because I referred them?
No. FlexyStaff funds your referral reward. Your friend receives their full hourly rate and entitlement with no deduction to pay your referral reward. Normal payroll deductions are separate.
When does a business referral qualify for £20?
The referred business must post its first shift and that first shift must be fulfilled. Registration or posting a shift without fulfilment does not trigger the £20 reward.
Does the referred business pay extra?
No extra referral charge applies. FlexyStaff pays your reward. The business’s normal staffing costs still apply.
Is there a limit to how many people I can refer?
No. There is no limit to the number of referrals you can have, so you can introduce friends across your student network.
Can my friends also refer and earn?
Yes. Your friends can introduce their own friends and businesses on the same basis. Their own referrals generate their rewards; your rewards come from your direct referrals.
How do I record a referral and receive payment?
Check the referral process and payment arrangements with FlexyStaff before making your introduction. Sharing this article alone does not record a referral against your account.
Can I find work around my university timetable?
Explore available shifts and check the hours, location, pay and requirements before applying. Choose shifts you can complete around your studies and travel commitments. Availability and employer selection vary.
