A Manx success story

From one Douglas venue to an Island-wide hospitality family

The story began with JAKS in 1990. Today, the same local hospitality family operates JAKS Bar & Smokehouse, Barbary Coast restaurants in Douglas, Peel and Ramsey, and Frank Matcham’s—supported by its own food-supply expertise and a long-standing commitment to Manx people, produce, events and sport.

These businesses have grown with the Island. In a recent interview, the company said it employed more than 200 local people. Its venues range from high-energy sport and live music to smokehouse dining, cocktails, small plates and family-friendly restaurants.

The original JAKS business combines a busy live-sport bar, live music and a 110-seat family-friendly Smokehouse overlooking Douglas Bay. JAKS says its bar can screen several sports fixtures at once, while the restaurant uses meat supplied through its associated butcher.
